What does it consist of?
Otoplasty or ear surgery is used to correct the size, inclination (the angle of implantation) or the shape of the ears. Currently, those patients who suffer «protuding ears» can opt for the technique of otoplasty without surgery, called earfold, which recreates the fold of the antihellix by inserting devices that are hidden under the skin, to stick the pole upper from the ear to the head. Both techniques are performed under local anesthesia, except in exceptional cases. In any case, it does not require hospitalization.

There are several surgical otoplasty techniques, which alternate according to the results you want to achieve. Otoplasty or ear surgery consists in recreating the antihellix fold, totally or partially absent. It may also be accompanied by a decrease in the height of the shell, changes in the scaphomastoid angle of the implantation of the auricle with respect to the head, and on fewer occasions, a different intervention called reduction otoplasty or a lobuloplasty is required to rejuvenate or change the shape of the lobes. The surgical approach is almost always behind the ear, and leaves a vertical scar hidden in the posterior fold of the ear. Results are immediate, although at first the ears are inflamed for an undetermined time.

You should sleep in the supine position (face up)
During the first days, edema or bruises may appear, which disappear in the following weeks. You can put local cold to reduce inflammation.
You have to dress a bandage 24 hours a day for the first 2 days, and the first month to sleep (not necessary for earfold method to correct protruding ears)
→FIRST WEEK:
- The points are usually removed 7 days after the procedure, depending on the evolution of each patient.
- The scars are posterior (except with earfold), so they will be practically hidden. It will be necessary to use gels or healing creams for a while to favor the healing process and avoid the appearance of marks.
- The taking of anti-inflammatories and antibiotic therapy will be prescribed to avoid infections
- It is not advisable to bend your head or lift weight during the first 5 days.
