Mentoplasty

With chin surgery or mentoplasty we can increase a little marked or retracted chin (retrognathism), to redefine the projection of it and balance the face. On the other hand, you can also reduce and soften the features of a patient who has a chin too large and prominent with respect to the rest of the face (prognathism). In some cases, the patient may have an occlusal and skeletal problem of the jaw, and if so, it should be combined with orthognathic surgery to advance the jaw. The maxillofacial surgeon will perform the clinical-radiological tests that are necessary and will determine the type of intervention to be performed.

→ FIRST 48 HOURS:

• Mentoplasty surgery does not require hospitalization and can be traveled immediately after the procedure.
• You should sleep in the supine position (face up)
• During the first days, edema or bruises may appear, which disappear in the following weeks. You can put local cold to reduce inflammation.
• The face may be inflamed during the first 24 hours and there may be discomfort in the cheeks.
• It is advisable to rinse the mouth with an oral antiseptic to avoid infections in the area.

→FIRST WEEK:

• The points are usually removed 7 days after the procedure, depending on the evolution of each patient.
• It will be necessary to use gels or healing creams for a while to favor the healing process and avoid the appearance of marks.
• The taking of anti-inflammatories and antibiotic therapy will be prescribed to avoid infections
• It is not advisable to bend your head or lift weight during the first 5 days.
• In about 4-5 days after mentoplasty the patient can join their work activity.

→FIRST MONTH:

• No smoking.
• Sunscreen should be used on the face.
• Intense sports activity should be avoided for 2-3 weeks after chin surgery.
• Avoid blows in the operated area
• You should not wear a helmet.
• At 15 days the results begin to be noticed
