Blepharoplasty

• Upper eyelid: A tiny cut is made in the crease of the eyelid to take off the excess of skin and fat. After that, we stitch on the natural creases of the eyelids to be hidden at the end. When the procedure only involves removing skin, it can be done under local anesthesia.

• Lower eyelid: The goal is to eliminate fat balls under the eyelashes. By means of an incision, the fat and the extra dermis are removed and the skin is tightened. This surgery adds luminosity to your skin and improves the general appearance of the face, eliminating signs of tiredness and aging. It requires local anesthesia and sedation.

→FIRST 48 HOURS:

• Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty does not require hospital stay and you can travel 24-48 hours after the procedure.
• During the first days, bumps and bruises can appear, but they dissapear over the following weeks. Local cold can help to decrease inflammation. 

→FIRST WEEK:

• Stitches are usually removed 5 days after the surgery.
• The scars in the lower eyelid are in the line of the eyelashes, so they are barely noticeable. Nevertheless, in the upper eyelid, the cut is hidden when opening eyes.  It is recommended to use gels or antibiotic cream for scars to help the process of healing.
• Anti-inflamatory intake and antibiotic therapy will be prescribed to avoid infection.
• It is not advisable to bend the head forward or lift any weight during the first five days.

→FIRST MONTH:

• No smoking.
• Generally, the patent can return to normal life two or three days after the surgery, but we recommend not to do physical exercise during the first month after the blepharoplasty.
• The patient should not use contact lenses during the first two weeks of recovery.
• It is advisable to use sun protection in the face.
